Scaups [?]
We had ducks on the pond this weekend, which, using the bird guides, we identified as scaups. There are two kinds: greater scaups and lesser scaups. The bird books say they’re almost indistinguishable – they’re the same color and nearly the same size – but lesser scaups have a more prominent crest. I think ours are lesser scaups, but Jen thinks I’m simply being ungenerous and should give them the benefit of the doubt.
Update: These are not scaups at all; they are Ring-Necked Ducks.
