Beautiful Evening

Published by under Pond

I was wandering around the North Woods in Central Park late Saturday morning when I heard a rising cheer from every direction. I knew at once the election had been called for Joe Biden. That’s a nice thing about living in New York: you can find out if, say, the Yankees have won the pennant […]

Labor Day Weekend 2020

Published by under Dogs,Pond

So far we have had spectacular weather for Labor Day weekend. On Friday we had a visit from Ivan and Elizabeth Saperstein, who brought fried chicken. We contributed a salad from our overflowing supply of tomatoes and cucumbers. Today, Daisy grazed near the hammock where I spent part of the afternoon, resting after a morning […]

Think Pink

Published by under Pond

This evening we had dramatic skies, and reflections, after a Sunday thunderstorm. Sarah and Jen spent much of the day in Kingston, gathering supplies for Sarah’s new mask-making business, while I battled various invasive vines in the woods and Daisy slept on the front stoop.

MLK Weekend 2020

Published by under Pond

We started the weekend with foggy skies and greenish fields, but a lovely snowfall began soon after we arrived Saturday. We responded, sensibly, by building a fire and making cassoulet.

Mighty Phragmites

Published by under Pond

With Jen away in Concord, Massachusetts, for board meetings, Sarah and I sprinted up to Rhinebeck Friday night after Sarah’s evening dance lessons. We arrived in time to allow several hours of sleep before Sarah’s 6:00 a.m. arrival at Southlands to prepare for her horse show. I went back to bed, but I was reliably […]

New PondCam™!

Published by under Pond,Trees

Attentive viewers of rhinebeckfarm.com may have noticed that the PondCam™ has not been working lately. Good news: you can find a new, improved PondCam on its eponymous page. It’s amazing how technology advances, and equally amazing that the only way I could capture the image above was by taking a screen shot of a video […]
